"Sent To Coventry...."

By Hannah Tobin

Had a fantastic day on 27th July 2004! Started off with 'McFly In Control' being on Flaunt!:-) Then I had the absolute pleasure of meeting up with Lois and Carol Lee. Things tried to get in the way - My car not starting and hold ups on the motorway, but they didn't beat us - At 12pm I met CL and Lois in town - Coventry. Had a lovely day! It was so nice being able to meet up, especially in Coventry, my home town. Having only spoken to CL on the computer before, it was hard to believe they were both here, 'on my turf' as they say!:-) I showed them around the two Cathedrals - Ignored the village idiot! I hadn't been in the new Cathedral for years, so it was nice for me to look round again. I'm not use to doing the tourist thing around Coventry as it's just town and University land for me! Lots of photo opportunities. We then went for a bite to eat (Ta muchly CL! My treat next time!) and drink in 'Playwrights' down Hay Lane. The old and nice part of town. Was able to show CL the Mavericks scrapbook! Talked about their holiday so far and what they had planned for the rest of the week. Then looked around the rest of the Cathedral grounds and walked through town towards Spon End - The other old part of town! You see, a lot of Coventry was destroyed during the Blitz, so most of the buildings are 50's and 60's design. Looked around St. Mary's Guild Hall, which was nice. Less busy than the last time I went there!

We then drove back to my house (ta very much for the lift!) and had a cuppa before CL and Lois headed off to Oxford. Showed them around the house and garden and my Maverick/Beatles bits and pieces. As soon as we went into the garden, Sadie (next door's cat) turned up and wanted a bit of fuss - Which CL was all too happy to give!:-) Ended up giving a mini performance on the accordion! Aghhh! Hadn't planned for that! Showed them the heap of junk outside that doesn't go (aka my Mini), had another photo opportunity and then it was time to say bye. It was a great day and I'm so pleased they were able to come up and visit. Just so surreal that after communicating on the computer for ages, they were now here at my house and I could actually show them the computer where it all happens! And to think they met through The Hanmade Website. The website has it's uses then!;-) No, but it's really nice to know it's brought new friends together who have a shared interest and have finally got the chance to meet up!:-)
