My Tribute o George Harrison

By Hannah Tobin

I'm currently listening to radio 2 and they are playing George's song 'What Is Life' from the All Things Must Pass album. It's still hard to believe it has happened, even though we all knew it would happen soon. Even though I never had the opportunity to meet George I still feel that I have lost someone very special to me. In 1998 I wrote a letter to George and I never expected I would receive a reply of any kind, but only a few months later I had a package in the post and on the back was the stamp, "The office of George Harrison". I couldn't believe it! Inside was a card entitled, "Why Meditate". On it read:

~*~*~*~*~
Without the help of meditation,
you cannot attain Knowledge of the Self.
Without its aid, you cannot grow
into the divine state.
Without it, you cannot liberate yourself
from the trammels of the mind
and attain immortality.
Meditation is the only royal road
to the attainment of freedom.
It is a mysterious ladder which reaches
from earth to heaven, from error to truth,
from darkness to light, from pain to bliss,
from restlessness to abiding peace,
from ignorance to knowledge.
From mortality to immortality.

Also in the package was a small round gold pin with the Om symbol on it in red. The symbol can be found on many of George's albums. I was just so pleased at this gesture! It made my day!:-) I have and always will treasure the card and especially the pin. Even though I wasn't born when the Beatles were together, I have all of their albums, videos as part of my Beatles collection. I also followed their solo work. Many of George's songs, including 'Taxman', 'Something', 'Here Comes The Sun' and 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' are my favourite Beatles songs! George's vocal and guitar sounds are so distinctive and memorable. Since I saw the Beatles Anthology videos and albums in the early 90's, George and The Beatles have played a big part of my life. I'll always remember him as an amazing musician and songwriter, his sense of humour and fun and being 'the quiet' one of The Beatles:-) Love To You George.........."Love everyone" ~ George Harrison 2001
