Kevin Montgomery and The Road Trippers
Denmark - 1st February 2005
By Mal
On Tuesday the 1.st feb 2005
I saw my first (so far) gig with Kevin Montgomery and The Roadtrippers.Being
a fan for over a year, I was so excited to see them live. It was
a long time dream coming true. Al Perkins was featuring with them
with his guitar and pedalsteel guitar. Two Danish performers rock/pop
star Soren Sko and country singer Ester Brohus were their special
guest stars. I knew a little bit about Ester Brohus, and Soren Sko
who are pretty famous here in Denmark. Many of the people who came
to the gig came because of either Soren Sko or Ester Brohus. I got
to talk with two couples, and they told me they came without knowing
who kevin Montgomery was, and ended up being the ones who clapped
the loudest (next after me, of course!!) and bying two-three of
his cd's and joined his mailing list.Kevin and the Roadtrippers
surely made a lots of new fans that night!
Kevin started the gig with "I
Don't even know your name". After that Soren sko and Ester
Brohus joined him and jammed throught some of Esters songs. She
was amazing. Kevin and Ester sounded SO great together. Their voices
fit so fine. As far as i know, they are friends, and that was easy
to see. They had a blast on that scene. Soren Sko voice was deeper
than Kevins and it gave me thrills to hear all three of them plus
the Roadtrippers singing together. Truely a great show!!! The Roadtrippers
are so talented.
After some few of Sorens and
Esters songs, Kevin performed four of his own songs. Among them
was Tennesse Girl (one of my faves). Then there was break, and kevin
came out to his "booth" to sell cd's and say hello to
fans. I was one of the first to join. I was pretty nervous, because
he's one of my absolutely faves, and it was a dream coming true
to meet him. Sadly the Roadtrippers were not joining us on the booth.
I would have loved to meet Robert, Mike and Paul and of course Al
Perkins. Well, maybe next time. Kevin was so nice to me and took
his time to talk with me and signed my 2.30 am booklet. When I asked
him to have my piture taken with him, he said "Yeah, OF COURSE"
and he took his time to make sure that it wasn't too dark, and we
had a right background. After he posed for one pic, he asked the
photographer (a nice helpful man from the audience) to take another
one:"One more, one more" he said. I asked him if he was
going to sing more of his own songs and he was. He sang a couple
of other songs with Ester and Soren and among them was Kevins "Wreckless"
(I think) and Las Vegas. (A fantastic upbeat song sounded even better
live!!), They rock!!!! Robert was one big grin the entire gig and
was joking with Kevin. Kevin was cold and was sniffing now and then,
but he sounds incredible as he always does, and even better live!!!
Then Kevin and the lads did three more songs and the show was over.
But the audience kept clapping and stamped and called: "Encore,
encore encore" Kevin, the guys and the Danish Guest stars came
back and did: "Tennesse Girl" again and left the scene.
The audience started to clap and call again, and Kevin came back
and winked the Roadtrippers in.."Come on.." he said..And
the last song that night was another one among my many faves and
the last track on his 2.30am: Fear Nothing. That sounded SO amazing.
Kevin's clear and emotional voice was floating toward us and filled
the room, and it was very touching. A perfect end on a perfect night.
Here's the list of the songs,(in
no particulary order except from the first and last number)

It was
a wonderful night!!! These guys rocks!! It was great to see how
much Kevin, Roadtrippers, the gueststars and Al perkinks enjoyed
to play together. The only thing missing, was to hear Let's All
Go To California, I Can't Drive You From My Mind, and most of all
Stumbled. But of course there was a time limit for the show and
the guys couldn't play all night..haha. This is definitely not the
last time I go to see Kevin montgomery and The Roadtrippers live.
Be sure to see me among the audience next time they vist Denmark
or other countries in Scandinavia.
