Jeff Finlin....

Many thanks to Jeff Finlin who did this little Q & A for Covfolk Online ahead of his September 2006 UK tour!

Covfolk: You've toured with musicians including Pat Buchanan, Will Kimbrough and Sally Van-Meter. Will this forthcoming tour be with a band or solo?

Jeff: It will be a band put together by Paul Guerin of the choirboys from london

CF: You must have been asked this many times, but for someone who hasn't heard your music or seen you live, how would you describe your music? And who would you say has influenced you over the years?

JF: I'm very songwriter influenced-I like guys like Warren Zevon and Randy Newman - The Stones and Beatles come to kind as well-its all about color and the moment really and having something to say that you might like to express

CF: Many people might have unknowingly heard your song, 'Sugar Blue' in the film 'Elizabethtown'. This has always been one of my favourite JF songs, so it was wonderful to see everybody in the cinema hearing a bit of Jeff! How did it all come about?

JF: I have no idea how they found it - I just came home from skiing one day and the movie company was on my voicemail asking if they might use it

CF: Your lyrics have always been very poetic - Is it usually the lyrics that come first or the music?

JF: It depends what im trying to do-if I want to fill a spot in a record that needs a certain feel then they both come at the same time-but usually ive got some thought I want to convey and that starts it all out

CF: Because of touring you must visit many different cities, towns and countries all over the world. Do you feel inspired to write while 'on the road' or do you take time out to do this?

JF: I never write on the road its all too exhauisting the way I travel-maybe when I get the bus and the nice hotels it'll be different-I usually write and record at the same time

CF: And finally, will we be hearing a follow-up to your last album, 'Epinonymous' very soon?

JF: Yes Epinonymous is coming out in England under a different title-'Angel In Disguise' with four bonus tracks on it-I've got a new retrospective coming out that was recorded live in the studio-and theres a new studio record in the works

CF: And just a couple of silly extras!

What music are you currently listening to?

JF: I listen to a lot of stuff on pop radio-as my son is always playing it in the car- I tend to prefer silence

CF: When you're not touring or writing, what do you like to do in your spare time?

JF: I like to ride my motorcycle, coach little league, ride my regular bike, and hang out in Colorado with my family-I love where I live

CF: Many thanks Jeff and good luck with the tour!

Jeff and his band will be appearing at The Musician Pub in Leicester on Wednesday 13th September 2006. For more information, visit Jeff's Official Website at: www.jefffinlin.com
