Biogs....

Colin Squire....

I began my folk career back in the seventies as singer/guitarist with Odyssey, a duo primarily performing contemporary folk music. When my colleague left to work in Kettering in 1978 I retired and kept out of folk music until 1992. At that time the late Jeff Dennison started a club in Monks Kirby where I live and after a few weeks of listening he convinced me to bring out a very battered and warped Eko guitar and have a go. Within a few weeks I was hooked again. Soon after replacing the guitar I met with Carole Gillespie, and we played as a duo for a while before we both went solo. I concentrated on song writing for a time and in 1997 released a cassette Pictures in my Mind with an accompanying song book. In recent years I have been involved in the Brinklow Folk Weekend which takes place in July and is proving a popular event attracting some excellent local and national artists. Currently I still sing and play mainly contemporary folk, but throw in the odd traditional song here and there. My repertoire consists mainly of songs which encourage audience participation through choruses and refrains, that's a throw back to the clubs of the 1970's where everyone seemed to be singing, and for me, that is what makes a great night. I am available for floor spots, guest spots, festivals and compering.
